Einstein's Cross, Imaged with an
AP 10" f/14.6 Maksutov-Cassegrain

Attached is my most difficult object yet, Einstein's Cross. It took about 15 hours over 2 nights to
capture it (10 hours total exposure). It is a very faint galaxy (mag 15) which is lensing a distant quasar. The
quasar is split into 4 parts by the foreground galaxy.
This object is difficult to capture because of it's extreme faintness, and the close separation of the
components. In the closeup image I have compared it to the north component of eLyra. The 4 components of the
Einstein Cross are separated by 0.9 arc seconds. The wide field image shows the galaxy among the foreground
stars. The light pollution at my site prevented capturing any of the fainter outer parts of the galaxy itself.
